In May of 1920 thirty five golf enthusiasts met for the purpose of organizing a golf club. July 15, 1920 the El Paso Golf Club has leased the El Paso fair grounds, site of present athletic fields, for two years, subject to use for the fair and school purposes. In 1920 a course was constructed on the fair grounds, located where the current El Paso-Gridley High School Football Field is. This location was used for play for two years. The next two years the club was moved to grounds leased on a rental basis, the Rutledge Farm, located on the North East side of town. This location is better known as the NW corner of Sixth and Adams Streets today. It was decided in 1923 to find a permanent home for the club to construct a course and clubhouse to create an ideal golf course and country club. After consideration of several sites of land it was determined they would purchase a sixty acre tract from the Henry Krug estate. The club opened in its current location on June 5, 1924. This is when the first round of golf was played at the current location.
